Health Discovery: Curry, Black Pepper May Help Prevent Breast Cancer

Add one more reason for women to spice up their diet: New research shows that compounds in turmeric and black pepper stop the growth of stem cells that often trigger breast cancer.

Stem cells play a role in many types of cancer, believed to mutate and fuel tumors. But researchers say limiting stem cell growth in the breast is crucial, especially in middle and older age. Although stem cells help maintain proper function in many organs—largely by replacing other cells that naturally die off—“in the breast, normal cells don’t turn over as much, and stem cells are necessary only during puberty to form breast tissue and during lactation,” explains Madhuri Kakarala, M.D., of the University of Michigan.

Her study, published online in Breast Cancer Research and Treatment in November, found that when a compound of the two spices was applied to breast cell cultures, it decreased the number of stem cells without affecting normal cells.

Past studies have shown cancer-preventing properties in turmeric, which gives curry its yellow-orange color. But Kakarala’s study finds that piperine, which is in black pepper, enhances turmeric’s power.

Supplements with these spices are available, but they only enter your system properly when eaten as part of your natural diet, Kakarala says.

“As a preventive measure against cancer, eat these spices regularly—in amounts to enhance but not overpower the flavor of food,” advises Bharat B. Aggarwal of M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. He calls Kakarala’s study “impressive and exciting,” noting that in India and other countries where curry is frequently consumed, rates of several types of cancer—including breast cancer—are about 10 times lower than in the United States. “But as women move from India to here, we see an increase in their rates of breast, colon and other cancers because they adopt a Western diet.”

The Day After Christmas

Well here we are another season has come and gone and the new year quickly coming upon us. I hope that this will be a better year for most of us than last year was with all the economy being the way it was. We can only hope for the best. Yesterday was a very special Christmas for me since I truly met my Christmas Angel in the form of a dear friend. I hope that I will be able to pass along the kindness that she showed me to others who's lives I may touch in the coming year. Just a thought for the new year don't forget how precious your friends and family are.

December Happenings...

December has been quite a busy month for me and might I say a very fun one too. Now that Christmas is only a few days away things are going to slow down a little for me. To start the month off I went to Disneyland with my sister and brother-in-law and we had a wonderful two days there even though the weather wasn't perfect. It just made things seem a little more magical. Then after that weekend we were invited to have a Christmas get together at my sister's house and it was so much fun to watch the grand-kiddies and great nephew Diego dance with glee as all the gifts were exchanged. He is so cute and so polite his mom has done a good job with him. It seemed like even the youngest were filled with glee and excitement to. It's always so nice to spend holidays with the family.
As the holidays are almost over but I still have some more get togethers to go to and my youngest son is going to take me out to dinner on Christmas Eve. I have to say this has been the very best holiday season I have had in years. Even our office party was the tops thanks to great planning.
Merry Christmas to all my friends may you have a happy and prosperous new year.

Isla's First Christmas 2009

It's hard to believe that our little Isla is 10 1/2 months old and about to experience her first Christmas. She enjoys unwrapping the little trinkets that St. Nick leaves outside her bedroom door if she has been a good girl the day before.

The Christmas 'Man Cave"

I was driving to work this morning and I couldn't believe my ears when I heard the announcer say that there a special place in Macy's dept store for the hubby's to wait while their wives do the Christmas shopping. The room is equipped with lounge chairs and comfy coaches and large flat screen T.V.s to watch sports or whatever. He compared it to a "Man Cave" which I thought was kind of unique. It just goes to show you how far the retail business will go to get people to spend money!

Curb Holiday Spending Without Being A Scrooge

People don’t realize it but Christmas has bloomed into a nearly $400 billion dollar spending spree in our country, maybe Ebenezer Scrooge shouldn’t have listened to the spirits that came to visit him that Christmas Eve night so long ago.

I estimate that the average American adult will spend about $740 dollars on gifts alone this season. With the economy still so much up in arms I think it’s time to go back to a simpler way of doing the holiday gift exchange this year.

How do you approach the delicate subject with friends and family? The key is not to wait until the last minute to set up the criteria that you will use for gift giving this season. I found it easy to explain to my family that I just don’t have the extra money to buy gifts for everyone. I have to admit that they were quite relieved because everyone seems to be on a budget this year.

If you have friends and relatives that you might only see during the holidays a thoughtful way to easily broach the subject of cutting back on gift giving this year is to send a nice little note or e-mail letting them know that you would rather not exchange gifts this year, maybe just do some baked goodies and tell them that you will look forward to seeing them.

If you are one of those people that feels you just have to buy gifts even though small. Just put a cap on your spending limit per person and try not to use credit cards. Remember a sale is not a sale if you don’t have the money.

If you’re in the habit of exchanging gifts with your colleagues at work why not just exchange a holiday greeting card instead with a nice holiday wish. Remember it’s the thought that counts.

Believe me you will be so much happier this season doing the simple kind of gift giving like baking or make simple things. I watched a movie the other day called the Walton’s Homecoming it took place back during the great depression of the 1930’s but to see how the holiday was focused more around the family really got me thinking of how I could do the same this year. So I will be going back to a simpler way of celebrating Christmas this year.

For those of you who really would like to give a small gift this Christmas here are just a few suggestions to keep gift giving simple:

1. Dollar-Store Gift Exchange: Remember it’s the thought that counts. See how creative you can be.

2. Regift exchange: If you have something that was given to you that is in mint or nearly mint condition that you think someone else might enjoy wrap it up and give it in the spirit of the holiday season. Remember it’s only regifting if that’s what’s in you heart.

3. Handmade Gifts:
Handmade gifts are always a hit with me because that means that someone who cares took the time to think of you.

4. Photos Gift Exchange:
I’m a grandma and I love photo gifts because they always remind me how blessed I am long after Christmas.

5. Giving to Charity:
Do you have a favorite charity that you would like to donate to in instead of the regular gift exchange. That is a gift that will keep on giving long after Christmas.

6. Don’t Forget the Homemade Baked Goodies: They’re always a great gift for those that don’t have the time to enjoy baking their own goodies.

7. Give A Talent-Show: For those who are really creative give a Christmas talent show for family and friends. It’s a lot of fun and something that will be remembered in our hearts and memories for years to come.

8. The Gift of Your Time: The gift of time is always appreciated. Maybe some babysitting or doing some chores or errands for the person you’re giving the gift to.

Inexpensive holiday season might be more enjoyable that you think. As Dr. Seuss wrote in “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”:

And he puzzled three hours, till his puzzler was sore.
Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before!
“Maybe Christmas,” he thought, “doesn’t come from a store.
Maybe Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more!’

Merry Christmas.....

Well Thanksgiving has come and gone all that remains are a few leftovers and all the great memories. I have to say that this year was one of the best holidays I can remember spending with my family. Everyone chipped in and did something special for the dinner and we had such a great choice of every ones special recipes. The only way to put on a great meal is to have everyone pitch in. I think that we will do this every holiday season.

Here is a special cute picture of Isla enjoying her part of Thanksgiving dinner your never to young or old to enjoy the holiday spirit.

THE DAY BEFORE TURKEY DAY!!!

Well I guess you can say that the Holiday Season is now in full swing. Kids are anticipating Christmas and the adults are just waiting to see how the Thanksgiving turkey is going to come out. There are those who by now through no fault of their own have to wait in the two hour boarding lines at the airports and they are hoping that they won't get bumped off flights! Oh my what a joy each year when the season comes around.

The stores are already in full Christmas BUY mode and are trying to entice us in every way possible with sales discounts and competing with one another and of course online ordering. As far as I'm concerned BLACK FRIDAY means absolutely nothing at all to me. When all the crazies are out stomping the malls at 5:00 o'clock in the morning I will be snugly warm under my down comforter in bed sound asleep.

I'm not planning to buy Christmas gifts for anyone but my grandchildren and my little grandnephew so I think that for the first time in a long time I am just focusing on my family and friends and of course I am loving all my Christmas music. No stress for me this year. Again I wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving and all the blessings for the upcoming holiday season.

Baby Love Between Isla and Vivianna

This is probably one of the cutest baby pictures I have of these two little important people in my life. This truly shows the unconditional love that these two babies share. Unconditional love is what life is all about. Isn't it funny how we have to learn this from our little ones.

8 Months Old and Getting Around Quite Well...

Thanks to my wonderful son and daughter-in-law I have a wonderful new photo of my little granddaughter Isla to share with you. She is now 8 months old and sitting up on her own as well as crawling and getting around the house by any means she can devise. She is starting to realize that she has the means to make different sounds and is experimenting with her language skills. It's been so long since my three sons where that age that I have totally forgot the different stages of development. It's fun to watch all three of my granddaughters go through the different stages of life.

Red Shirt Fridays...

If the red shirt thing is new to you, read below how it went for a man...
Last week, while traveling to Chicago on business, I noticed a Marine sergeant traveling with a folded flag, but did not put two and two together.
After we boarded our flight, I turned to the sergeant, who'd been invited to sit in First Class (across from me), and inquired if he was heading home.
No, he responded.
Heading out I asked?
No. I'm escorting a soldier home.
Going to pick him up?
No. He is with me right now. He was killed in Iraq , I'm taking him home to his family..
The realization of what he had been asked to do hit me like a punch to the gut. It was an honor for him. He told me that, although he didn't know the soldier, he had delivered the news of his passing to the soldier's family and felt a s if he knew them after many conversations in so few days.
I turned back to him, extended my hand, and said, Thank you. Thank you for doing what you do so my family and I can do what we do.
Upon landing in Chicago the pilot stopped short of the gate and made the following announcement over the intercom.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to note that we have had the honor of having Sergeant Steeley of the United States Marine Corps join us on this flight He is escorting a fallen comrade back home to his family. I ask that you please remain in your seats when we open the forward door to allow Sergeant Steeley to deplane and receive his fellow soldier. We will then turn off the seat belt sign."
Without a sound, all went as requested. I noticed the sergeant saluting the casket as it was brought off the plane, and his action made me realize that I am proud to be an American.
So here's a public Thank You to our military Men and Women for what you do so we can live the way we do.
Red Fridays.
Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing Red every Friday. The reason? Americans who support our troops used to be called the "silent majority." We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country and home in record breaking numbers. We are not organized, boisterous or overbearing.
Many Americans, like you, me and all our friends, simply want to recognize that the vast major it of America supports our troops. Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and respect starts this Friday -- and continues each and every Friday until the troops all come home, sending a deafening message that ... Every red-blooded American who supports our men and women a far, will wear something red.
By word of mouth, press, TV -- let's make the United States on every Friday a sea of red much like a homecoming football game in the bleachers. If every one of us who loves this country will share this with acquaintances, coworkers, friends, and family, it will not be long before the USA is covered in RED and it will let our troops know the once "silent" majority is on their side more than ever, certainly more than the media lets on.
The first thing a soldier says when asked "What can we do to make things better for you?" is. "We need your support and your prayers." Let's get the word out and lead with class and dignity, by example, and wear something red every Friday.

Special Friends...

Last night I had the most wonderful dinner with two special friends, we watched the movie Beverly Hills Chihuahua and I give the movie a 5 star thumbs up for cuteness and it even has a pretty good story line. It will keep you laughing and on the edge of your seat the whole time. Nancy and Chris thank you again for such a pleasurable evening. Can't wait until we do it again.

How We are Touched By Special People In Our Lives

I am feeling kind of sentimental today and I just felt like sharing how important the special people in our lives are to us.

To start I had a birthday last week and realizing that I am really not as young as I use to be is quite an awaking. One thing though is that it does make me sit back and think of just how special being with the ones I love is.

Last Friday I was invited to dinner with my two sons and their lovely wifes and of course my little granddaughter Isla Marie came to celebrate with us also. I had a great time needless to say.

On Saturday I was invited to go to Malia's 5th birthday (my other granddaughter) at Chucke Cheese and my niece was there with her little son Diego what a little charmer he is. We had pizza ice cream cake and a lot of fun watching the little ones trying to get in front of the TV camera and watch themselves on TV.

Sunday I spent the day with my lovely two granddaughters Malia and Viviana. Little Viviana is growing by leaps and bounds I can't believe she is three months old already. She is quite aware of everything around her.

To have a perfect ending to my birthday celebrations two very special people in my life invited me to dinner and we had a nice time visiting and catching up on the family news. I always so enjoy being with Vicki and Bill. Thank you both for always be there for me.

As we get older we appreciate our family and friends so much more.

You can't make up stuff better than this!

Jesse Jackson's Newest Staff Member
Mel Reynolds

Jesse Jackson has added former Chicago Democrat Congressman Mel Reynolds to Rainbow/PUSH Coalition's payroll. Reynolds was among the 176 criminals excused in President Clinton's last-minute forgiveness spree. Reynolds received a commutation of his six-and-a-half-year federal sentence for 15 convictions of wire fraud, bank fraud, and lies to the Federal Election Commission. He is more notorious, however, for concurrently serving five years for sleeping with an underage campaign volunteer and possession of child pornography.

This may be a first in American politics: An ex-congressman who had sex with a subordinate...won clemency from a president who had sex with a subordinate... then was hired by a clergyman who had sex with a subordinate!

Oh! His new job?

The Belly-Rubbing High

Since I have just had a couple of wonderful new grand babies born into my family within the last six months I came across this article on msn health and found it quite interesting and I thought I would share some of it with my readers.

The Belly-Rubbing High
Are some women addicted to having babies?
By Martha Brockenbrough, Women's Health

It's not just in your head. There really is a bumper crop of baby bumps out there, from the famously fertile, like Heidi Klum, who's flirting with her fourth set of stretch marks in five years, to the infamous Nadya "Octomom" Suleman, who earlier this year bore eight babies at once even though she already had six other kids at home that she could barely afford to take care of.
In 2007 alone, American women birthed more than 4.3 million babies — the highest number ever. More than a quarter of those were to women having their third or fourth child, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. And despite the infertility freak-out the entire country seems to be currently engaged in, only a small number of these babies — perhaps 100,000 — resulted from medical interventions such as in vitro fertilization, says Jamie Grifo, M.D., Ph.D., director of the division of reproductive endocrinology at the NYU School of Medicine.
That doesn't mean that we're transforming into a nation of Duggars (the Arkansas family with 18 kids often seen announcing their latest conception on NBC's TODAY show) and Novogratzes (the New York City clan of seven kids soon to be the focus of a new Bravo reality show) — the average number of children per American family is still hovering right around two.
Still, certain mothers, like 31-year-old Meagan Francis, who is raising her flock of five in Michigan, have big broods because that's what they're used to. "I grew up in a relatively large family and always loved having lots of people around," she says. "So it's natural that I'd try to re-create that experience with my own family."
But it's not always quite so simple, psychologists say. Some women may like being pregnant a little too much, often driven to rapidly reproduce out of insecurity, a craving for attention, or feelings of abandonment by their own parents.
The high of pregnancy
Having babies isn't addictive in the way that alcohol and narcotics can be. But bumpaholics feel compelled to procreate for many of the same reasons that substance abusers turn to booze or drugs.
"Women who are obsessed with being pregnant are literally filling an emptiness inside of them, just as alcoholics and drug addicts use substances to fill a psychological void," says Beverly Hills psychiatrist Carole Lieberman, M.D. Every one of us at some point encounters this void, adds New York family therapist Bonnie Eaker Weil, Ph.D., author of "Financial Infidelity." "You want to have a purpose in this world. You want to feel less lonely."

Haven't Been Around for Awhile....

Hi everyone:

Sorry I haven't been around for awhile. Life itself has been keeping me very busy. There are so many changes going on in my life (much for the good) and I am finally getting everything in order. I'm sitting here at work can you believe on a Sunday morning in sunny California! Oh well at least I have a job and I only have to work for half a day.

The news hasn't been so good lately so I don't even have any good things to share with you. I was appalled when I visited the website of the SICKO that killed those three girls in the gym. I can't believe how someone who had so much going for him could be so deranged. You just don't know what is going on inside someones head. He didn't seem that bad looking either so I don't know why he had so much trouble attracting women. Maybe it was because he was so wierd.

As soon as something good and interesting happens I will be back with some good news for a change.

Spending time with Isla Marie

Last week I got to spend some wonderful bonding time with my almost 6 month old granddaughter (my how time flies). I had dinner and a lovely visit with her and her parents and then spent spent some time just getting to know my precious little one. She is turning into such a lovely little girl and her parents seem so proud and happy these days. Her mommy has been spending a lot of time just trying to keep her cool this summer so they have spent a lot of time in the pool. Here is cute picture her mother took of her in her new little floaty.

THIS WAS WRITTEN BY A SOLDIER IN IRAQ.

Okay, I need to rant.I was just watching the news, and I caught part of a report on Michael Jackson. As we all know, Jackson died the other day. He was an entertainer who performed for decades. He made millions, he spent millions, and he did a lot of things that make him a villain to many people. I understand that his death would affect a lot of people, and I respect those people who mourn his death, but that isn't the point of my rant. Why is it that when ONE man dies, the whole of America loses their minds with grief? When a man dies whose only contribution to the country was to ENTERTAIN people, the American people find the need to flock to a memorial in Hollywood, and even Congress sees the need to hold a "moment of silence" for his passing?Am I missing something here? ONE man dies, and all of a sudden he's a freaking martyr because he entertained us for a few decades? What about all those SOLDIERS who have died to give us freedom? All those Soldiers who, knowing that they would be asked to fight in a war, still raised their hands and swore to defend the Constitution and the United States of America. Where is there moment of silence? Where are the people flocking to their graves or memorials and mourning over them because they made the ultimate sacrifice? Why is it when a Soldier dies, there are more people saying "good riddance," and "Thank God for IEDs?" When did this country become so calloused to the sacrifice of GOOD MEN and WOMEN, that they can arbitrarily blow off their deaths, and instead, throw themselves into mourning for a "Pop Icon?"I think that if they are going to hold a moment of silence IN CONGRESS for Michael Jackson, they need to hold a moment of silence for every service member killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. They need to PUBLICLY recognize every life that has been lost so that the American people can live their callous little lives in the luxury and freedom that WE, those that are living and those that have gone on, have provided for them. But, wait, that would take too much time, because there have been so many willing to make that sacrifice. After all, we will never make millions of dollars. We will never star in movies, or write hit songs that the world will listen too. We only shed our blood, sweat and tears so that people can enjoy what they have.Sorry if I have offended, but I needed to say it. Feel free to pass this along if you want.Remember these five words the next time you think of someone who is serving in the military;"So that others may live..."

SHERIFF JOE IS AT IT AGAIN --- WAY TO GO, JOE !!

SHERIFF JOE IS AT IT AGAIN!
You all remember Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona , who painted the jail cells pink and made the inmates wear pink prison garb. Well.........
SHERIFF JOE IS AT IT AGAIN! Oh, there's MUCH more to know about Sheriff Joe! Maricopa County was spending approx. $18 million dollars a year on stray animals, like cats and dogs. Sheriff Joe offered to take the department over, and the County Supervisors said okay. The animal shelters are now all staffed and operated by prisoners.. They feed and care for the strays. Every animal in his care is taken out and walked twice daily. He now has prisoners who are experts in animal nutrition and behavior. They give great classes for anyone who'd like to adopt an animal. He has literally taken stray dogs off the street, given them to the care of prisoners, and had them place in dog shows. The best part? His budget for the entire department is now under $3 million. Teresa and I adopted a Weimaraner from a Maricopa County shelter two years ago. He was neutered, and current on all shots, in great health, and even had a microchip inserted the day we got him. Cost us $78. The prisoners get the benefit of about $0.28 an hour for working, but most would work for free, just to be out of their cells for the day. Most of his budget is for building maintenance, utilities, etc. He pays the prisoners out of the fees collected for adopted animals.. I have long wondered when the rest of the country would take a look at the way he runs the jail system, and copy some of his ideas. He has a huge farm, donated to the county years ago, where inmates can work, and they grow most of their own fresh vegetables and food, doing all the work and harvesting by hand. He has a pretty good sized hog farm, which provides meat, and fertilizer. It fertilizes the Christmas tree nursery, where prisoners work, and you can buy a living Christmas tree for $6 - $8 for the Holidays, and plant it later. Yup, he was reelected last year with 83% of the vote. Now he's in trouble with the ACLU again. He painted all his buses and vehicles with a mural, that has a special hotline phone number painted on it, where you can call and report suspected illegal aliens. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement wasn't doing enough in his eyes, so he had 40 deputies trained specifically for enforcing immigration laws, started up his hotline, and bought 4 new buses just for hauling folks back to the border. He's kind of a 'Git-R Dun' kind of Sheriff. TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH JOE ARPAIO HE IS THE MARICOPA ARIZONA COUNTY SHERIFF AND HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER -THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY: Sheriff Joe Arpaio who created the ' Tent City Jail': He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them. He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. Took away their weights and Cut off all but 'G' movies.. He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects. Then He Started Chain Gangs For Women So He Wouldn't Get Sued For Discrimination. He took away cable TV Until he found out there was A Federal Court Order that Required Cable TV For Jails, So He Hooked Up The Cable TV Again - Only Let In The Disney Channel And The Weather Channel. When asked why the weather channel He Replied, So They Will Know How Hot It's Gonna Be While They Are Working ON My Chain Gangs... He Cut Off Coffee Since It Has Zero Nutritional Value. When the inmates complained, he told them, 'This Isn't The Ritz/Carlton .......If You Don't Like It, Don't Come Back..' More On The Arizona Sheriff: With Temperatures Being Even Hotter Than Usual In Phoenix (116 Degrees Just Set A New Record), the Associated Press Reports: About 2,000 Inmates Living In A Barbed-Wire Surrounded Tent Encampment At The Maricopa County Jail Have Been Given Permission To Strip Down To Their Government-Issued Pink Boxer Shorts. On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 Degrees Inside The Week Before. Many Were Also Swathed In Wet, Pink Towels As Sweat Collected On Their Chests And Dripped Down To Their PINK SOCKS. 'It Feels Like We Are In A Furnace,' Said James Zanzot, An Inmate Who Has Lived In The TENTS for 1 year. 'It's Inhumane.' Joe Arpaio, the tough-guy sheriff who created the tent city and long ago started making his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic. He said Wednesday that he told all of the inmates: 'It's 120 Degrees In Iraq And Our Soldiers Are Living In Tents Too, And They Have To Wear Full Battle Gear, But They Didn't Commit Any Crimes, So Shut Your Mouths!' Way To Go, Sheriff! Maybe if all prisons were like this one there would be a lot less crime and/or repeat offenders. Criminals should be punished for their crimes - not live in luxury until it's time for their parole, only to go out and commit another crime so they can get back in to live on taxpayers money and enjoy things taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves.

The Whale

If you read the front page story of the SF Chronicle,
you would have read about a female humpback whale
who had become entangled
in a spider web of crab traps and lines. She was weighted down by hundreds of pounds of traps that caused
her to struggle to stay afloat. She also had hundreds of yards
of line rope wrapped around her body, her tail, her torso,
a line tugging in her mouth.A fisherman spotted her just east of the Farralone Islands .
Within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and determined
that she was "so bad off, the only way to save her was
to dive in and untangle her..." One slap of the tail could kill a rescuer. They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her. When she was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles. She then came back to each and every diver, one at a time,
and nudged them, pushed gently around-she thanked them.
Some said it was the most incredibly beautiful experience of their lives. The guy who cut the rope out of her mouth says her eye was
following him the whole time, and he will never be the same.May you, and all those you love, be so blessed and fortunate
to be surrounded by people who will help you get untangled
from the things that are binding you. And, may you always know the joy of giving and receiving gratitude.I pass this on to you, my friend, in the same spirit !

Blood Clots/Stroke - They Now Have a Fourth Indicator, theTongue.

Blood Clots/Stroke - They Now Have a Fourth Indicator, the Tongue. This is good info to remember and use. STROKE: Remember The 1st Three Letters.... S.T.R.

My nurse friend sent this and encouraged me to post it and spread the word. I agree. If everyone can remember something this simple, we could save some folks. Seriously.. Please read: STROKE IDENTIFICATION: During a BBQ, a friend stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) ....she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes. They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening Ingrid's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 pm Ingrid passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Ingrid would be with us today. Some don't die.... they end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead. It only takes a minute to read this... A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke... totally . He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough. RECOGNIZING A STROKE Thank God for the sense to remember the '3' steps, STR . Read and Learn! Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.. Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions: S * Ask the individual to SMILE.T * Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (i.e. It is sunny out today)R * Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS. If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call 999/911 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher. New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your TongueNOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other , that is also an indication of a stroke.

I feel this important enough to share with my readers especially those who suffer from any kind of bloodclot problems or just those of us who are getting a little older. Allthough strokes can affect people at any age.

Babies Growing Up

My how the times flies! Our little Isla is turning into such a real little girl with her own personality. She has such great parents and a mother with tons of patience that she as learned to do so many incredible things. She is now using the special play saucer thing the I gave her mommy for her baby shower. It helps her with her standing efforts and makes her feel more like a small little person. She really enjoys playing with the funny little toys that are all around her. She has all kind of colors front and back. I love being a Grammy!

Poms, Poms, Poms.....

This weekend we had a nice visit with my parents who also love Pomeranian's as much as I do. I had one of mine with me and when we added my one to my parents four we had a total of five little fluff balls running around her familyroom. They are great entertainment and can really keep you laughing. Here's a cute video of two of my mom's dogs playing.
